Apartment Earth: We're Not Plastic Bags Either

Remember the craze a few years ago surround Anya Hindmarch's "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" tote? Her cotton tote was meant to raise awareness about plastic trash pollution and be stylish and practical at the same time. Now, it's practically faux pas to use plastic bags. Hooray!

Here are some cute reusable bags to use while you're out shopping...

These lovely reusable bags are sold separately or as mix-and-match sets. I love Envirosax's bold graphic designs and "scrunch-ability" (easy to pack several into your purse before you leave your apartment). Shown here is a black-and-white design from the La Boheme collection, the design of which is inspired by Bohemia and Art Nouveau. A bargain at just $8.50, or $37.95 for the entire set!

If aforementioned "scrunch-ability" isn't a priority, choose a sturdy bag with a flat bottom. The Olivia bag by b. happybags, shown here, is easy to pack. Use it for grocery or other shopping items where packing makes a difference. Choose from several designs, including bags for specific tasks such as yoga and dry cleaning.

Bag the Habit
This cleverly named company features reusable tote bags made from recycled, water resistant fabric. The bags feature padded straps and hold three shoeboxes worth of stuff, or, nearly three times the volume of a plastic bag! Pretty amazing since they fold up into the inner pocket for easy transport to the shop. Bag the Habit reusable tote bags are manufactured in the United States. A single tote is $18, or buy the design trio for just $45.

Whichever reusable tote you chose, you'll make a stylish statement that yes, this isn't a plastic bag.
