35,000 washing machines recalled for fire hazard

Updated

Frigidaire is recalling 35,000 washing machines manufactured under a variety of brand names because they could catch on fire due to a problem with the drain pump, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The American-made machines were sold between February and May for between $300 and $1,100 under the following brands: Crosley, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Kenmore, Wascomat , and White-Westinghouse. They were sold nationwide at Sears and other retailers.

Those who have the machines should unplug them and schedule a repair appointment. If the machine was purchased at a Sears store, consumers should contact Sears. Otherwise, contact Frigidaire.

For more information, call Frigidaire at (800) 734-4519 between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern Time Monday through Saturday, or go to www.laundrypumprecall.com.

For those who need to contact Sears, call them toll free at (888) 549-5870 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET Monday through Saturday, or go to www.sears.com.
