Stocks poised for a higher start after Ford's surprise profit, ahead of data

U.S. stocks were poised to rise at the open Thursday morning after Ford reported a surprise profit and as mergers-and-acquisition activity returned. Another fresh wave of earnings releases awaits investors today, as well as data on jobless claims and home sales.
