You might already have won a free appetizer at Olive Garden

Updated

If you ate at an Olive Garden restaurant between Dec. 4, 2006 and Aug. 10, 2007 you could be getting a free appetizer, courtesy of a class action lawsuit. The settlement was made official on Tuesday.

What exactly did you do deserve this? Nothing really, except having an extra digit of your credit or debit card exposed. Federal law requires no more than five digits to appear on a receipt. Olive Garden exposed six.

Wait, there is a catch. You had to have filled out a voucher request by June 4 to get your piece of the appetizer booty. Your credit for this extra digit: $9. An estimated 12,000 people will be getting the vouchers.

Darden Restaurants operates nearly 700 Olive Garden locations. If you want to have a look at an Olive Garden menu to preselect your appetizer, go here and punch in your zip code.
