The people in charge at The New York Times Co. are all about transparency -- except when they're not.

Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and president Janet L. Robinson sent a memo to employees earlier today explaining what's been going on recently at the Boston Globe. (Short version: The paper's losing tons of money; the company's trying to cut costs; the unions finally agreed to play ball.)
