Treasure hunt is on for engagement ring Saturday

If you can get to New Zealand's capital by Saturday, you may be in for the treasure hunt of a lifetime.

A New Zealand man who was spurned by the woman of his dreams is giving away the diamond engagement ring he bought her -- valued at $3,268, or NZ$5,000 -- in a treasure hunt in Wellington.

Anthony Gardiner, 29, a call-center worker, is quoted in a Reuters story as saying that he met a girl, bought a ring, but she "wasn't as keen."

Too bad. You'd think the store where he bought the engagement ring would give him a refund. When I bought my wife's engagement ring, the clerk told me that no woman would turn down such a ring, but if I was turned down, they'd take it back. Luckily, my proposal ended well.
