Woman keeps mom's body for 6 years, collects her pension

A woman has been indicted for keeping her dead mom's body in a bedroom for six years while collecting about $237,000 in pension benefits, according to a Reuters story.

Penelope Sharon Jordan, of Sebastian, Fla., collected $61,415 from U.S. Social Security and $176,461 from her mom's military pension after her mother died in 2003, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami.

The body of Timmie Jordan was found on a bed in a spare bedroom at the mother's home in late March. Police were called to investigate a report of nuisance cats.The indictment alleged that Jordan concealed her mother's
death so she could receive her Social Security and military survivor's benefit. She faces up to 15 years in prison.

Local media in Florida reported that Jordan, 61, told police her mom died of old age. An autopsy found no signs of foul play.
