Stamp out hunger with food drive Saturday

Updated

Food drives are popular at Thanksgiving and Christmas, when people are more likely to donate during holidays that revolve around family gatherings and food.

But a national food drive on Saturday, May 9, in the middle of spring, stands out because of the time of the year that it's happening and because it's happening during a global recession -- when there are more hungry people who have lost their jobs.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, in its 15th year, will likely come in handy for more people this year due to the economy. While many unemployed people are lucky enough not to go hungry, many people -- working and the unemployed -- do, and Saturday is a day to help.
