Is Canada the place to go for college?
With college costs soaring and state aid for higher education set for more steep cuts, some American high school seniors are looking north for more affordable options. NBC News reported on this emerging trend (see video below) and it's easy to understand: The Canadian government's aggressive subsidization of its higher education system has kept college costs there low -- low that is in comparison to to America's private colleges.
There's something very chic about going to college in Canada to save money but the truth is that it's still far, far more expensive than going to a state college or university. The financial aid picture can also become considerably more complicated, and you'll have added travel costs to contend with.
If a student finds a college in Canada that he likes then by all means, take a look. But if cost is a major concern for you, there are much better options.
