Acting Freddie Mac CFO found dead in apparent suicide

The acting chief financial officer of mortgage giant Freddie Mac has committed suicide, according to news reports.

David Kellerman, 41, a 16-year-veteran of the company, was found dead this morning in his Virigina home, according to Washington, D.C., radio station WTOP. He was appointed to lead the company last September.

The U.S. government took over Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae last fall as losses on mortgage loans backed by the companies mounted. All told, the companies have received about $60 billion in government investments.
