Stimulate US: California to get economic stimulus czar

Updated

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to appoint a state economic stimulus czar to ensure California gets its share of the $787 billion economic stimulus package approved by Congress and signed by President Obama.

The state already has a recovery Web site to track how the federal stimulus money will flow.

Officials from Schwarzenegger's office have been digging into the details of the federal package while the state Legislature hurries to make changes in state law so that California is eligible for the federal funds, according to a San Francisco Chronicle story.

The governor has created several working groups to focus on areas that would receive federal funds, such as education, transportation and health care.

The economic stimulus czar would help state and local government officials, nonprofits and other organizations tap into the federal funds.
