Want that janitorial job? Get in line

Updated

In a sign of the times, more than 700 people applied for one janitorial job at a junior high school in Ohio, according to press reports.

Officials at Perry Local Schools in Canton, Ohio, extended the deadline to apply through today, to accommodate the incredible response.

The full-time gig pays $15-$16 plus full benefits. Besides the gritty physical work, the winning applicant will also have to interact with middle school kids, for which there should be hazard pay.

That so many people have sent in their resumes for the mere chance of a steady job with benefits speaks volumes about the state of our country. Makes you wonder why the heads of our failing banks and auto industry aren't cutting their multi-million salaries and bonuses in at least an effort to preserve a few jobs for working people.
