Unhappy about the way the world is going? Try suing God!

Last month, in an attempt to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of America's courts, Nebraska state Senator Ernie Chambers filed a lawsuit against God. Citing the deity for making "terroristic threats [...] to innumerable persons" and causing "calamitous catastrophes resulting in the wide-spread death, destruction and terrorization of millions," the lawmaker also notes that, despite numerous attempts at communication, he has been unable to discuss his complaint with God, who has ignored his overtures.

Chambers claims that, as God is omniscient, the deity has knowledge of the legal complaint, even if it is impossible to personally serve him/her/it with papers. Unfortunately, however, Douglas County District Court Judge Marlon Polk disagreed, ruling last week that Nebraska state law requires that the plaintiff must have access to the defendant in order for a lawsuit to proceed. As Chambers was unable to personally deliver the lawsuit to God, Polk ruled that he cannot sue the Almighty.

Chambers notes that, even though Polk rejected the suit, it can still be appealed. The lawmaker, apparently, is considering just that course of action, although he notes that his actions have clearly demonstrated the societal price of frivolous lawsuits!
