Overrated: Angelina Jolie -- OMG, leave the poor woman alone!

Having gone to my 20th high school reunion recently, followed by some reflecting about how my life has gone an adult, I admit to feeling a little weird and intimidated about the idea of suggesting that Angelina Jolie is overrated. After all, the 33-year-old actress and philanthropist is attractive, talented, intelligent, wealthy and famous... and who am I, or anyone who isn't a multi-millionaire world-renowned figure and successful beyond belief, to judge if she is overrated?

And yet, as a member of the film-watching, newspaper and magazine reading public, I know I'm right. You know I'm right. If Ms. Jolie happens to be reading this, she knows I'm right. After all, does anyone short of a world leader need this much media scrutiny?

I think just about everyone knows her personal story: that she is the daughter of actor Jon Voight, sports a lot of tattoos, used to be married to actor Billy Bob Thornton and carried around a vial of his blood, though in recent months she has said it was more of a "flower press," as she told Entertainment Weekly. "It was like from a slight cut on your finger, and you press your fingerprint in. It was kind of a sweet gesture."

In more recent years, of course, she has made headlines for her romance with, but not marriage to, Brad Pitt, who famously left actress Jennifer Anniston to be with her. We all know that they're always adopting or giving birth to kids between making movies, and calling attention to important causes; and that they're so tight, they're called Brangelina. I could probably write another 1,000 words about her with my eyes closed, and would, if I didn't want to keep this story typo-free.

Not that the world needs anyone to write 1,000 words on Angelina Jolie, any time soon. For instance, a few minutes ago, I went to Google News, a database that shows the news media articles from the last 30 days, and typed in "Angelina Jolie," and it came back with 11,973 hits. I'm sure her dad gave up clipping out her newspaper articles long ago. Oh, and, yes, I'm aware of the stories that she and her father aren't talking. And that's the thing. I think we're aware of everything in her life. Right now, for instance, I can tell you that Angelina Jolie is believed to be suffering from post-partum depression, thanks to recently having twins, and that she has recently had spats with Roseanne Barr and Joan Rivers. International media has been reporting that Angelina's worried about her kids being kidnapped. Vanity Fair named her and Pitt the ninth most powerful people in the world. Her former makeup artist recently passed away. She will be starring in a Clint Eastwood directed movie soon. And on it goes.

The media obviously writes about Ms. Jolie because they know that people are interested in her. Still, I wish we could all agree to have some sort of Angelina Jolie détente --like a year, or at least six months. Then, once we starte seeing her around again, she'd be like a breath of fresh air. Trust me, it would do all of us some good, maybe even Ms. Jolie. I hear she's been feeling a little blue lately.
