Laguiole Corkscrew Knife, $19.95, REI.com

Updated

The Daily Deal for Saturday, August 16, 2008

I love the internet. Today is another day I was all set to point you to a great buy on a cool product on one site, only to find an even better one, elsewhere, cheaper. I love this Baladeo Laguiole Corkscrew Knife -- it's really everything I ever need in an army-type knife: a really great blade, and a corkscrew. Simple and lovely. According to the product info: "Carbon surgical 420 stainless steel provides excellent longevity in a slender blade and the three-spiral, stainless-steel corkscrew makes easy work of any stubborn cork."

I found it as the daily deal on Sierra Trading Post in the black version for $27.95. But this wood-grained version is prettier and cheaper -- $19.95 -- at REI.com. Sierra Trading Post says the regular price was $79 but I was unable to find it for more than $39 at any net site; it's a closeout, though, so it could be true.

And when you head out on that end-of-summer camping trip, you'll be able to gut your fish and open your wine, and then slice up a nice hunk of cheese. Can I come, too?
