$65,000? For a bed?

If you consider that you spend one-third of your life asleep, it probably does make some sense to spend some serious coin on your mattress. But $65,000?

Hästens Sängar AB, a Swedish luxury bed maker, has been advertising their beds in magazines like Vanity Fair, Departures, Robb Report and the Ritz-Carlton Magazine. In other words, you won't be finding this bed at Wal-Mart.

Of course, the $65,000 is the top end, the attention-grabbing price of what you would spend for a Hästens. If that sounds a little too pricey, don't worry. If you want to slum among the lifestyles of the rich and quilted, you can purchase a bed for $5,000, their lowest price.

These beds are hand-made with all-natural filling, according to the web site. My first thought was that I was reading an ad for, say, a Snickers bar, but they're talking about natural fibers like flax, wool and cotton. When the company was founded in 1852, they were stuffing their beds with the best possible filling available during this time -- horsehair.

Hästens calls this the "bed of your dreams," and that much is true. As much as I enjoy sleep, I know that to spend $65,000 for a bed, I'd have to be dreaming.
