Used wedding gowns: Too cheap or way smart?

Updated

I suspect this will make all the sense in the world to guys, but leave many women cold. With wedding dress prices ranging well up into four and five figures, I wasn't surprised when I stumbled across preownedweddingdresses.com, a site that serves as broker between women looking to sell their wedding dress and those wanting to pick up a bargain in bride's wear. With hundreds of gowns offered at a fraction of their original prices, the frugal betrothed can pocket quite a dowry in savings.

Pre-owned wedding dresses handles some top-end stuff, too, such as Vera Wang's creations. Most are listed at 50% off or more of the original price. Sellers pay a $25 consignment fee and keep the rest, a windfall for many who have only bad memories associated with their gowns.

I suspect many of the women of my acquaintance would welcome an expansion of this idea to include bridesmaid's dresses. I don't know that I've ever met a woman that felt the bridesmaid's dress she's worn flattered her.
