After Halloween, time turns into a slingshot aimed at the end of the year, but it is essential to slow down and appreciate the impending holiday season for all its glory. Before the onslaught of Christmas carols and twinkling lights, there is the always filling, and pinnacle fall gathering that is Thanksgiving.

Now that gatherings can once again be done in person, people are thoroughly planning this meal. Friends and family all huddled together around a cornucopia of potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, gravy, green beans and the headlining turkey.

Even with all of the planning you put in before this feast, sometimes things come up on the day when you need to run to a store to do some last-minute shopping. As Thanksgiving is a holiday when many stores are closed, you need to know where to go in a pinch. You need to know what stores are open on Thanksgiving.

What Stores Are Open on Thanksgiving?

Though many national or regional chains are open on Thanksgiving, always check with your local store as sometimes hours of operation will vary. From large chains to smaller franchises, here are 20 stores you can count on to be open on Thanksgiving.

1. Ace Hardware

Ace Hardware is a hardware store that would be great on Thanksgiving if something in your kitchen stopped working and you needed to grab a quick tool or supply to fix it. Ace Hardware will be open during its regular weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in most locations.

2. Acme

Acme Markets are open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving. It is always good to know what supermarket near you is open.

3. Bass Pro Shop

Great for all things outdoors, especially if you have people staying with you and need to set up a tent for the in-laws. Bass Pro Shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

4. Big Lots

Most Big Lots locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Big Lots has everything from home supplies to toys, so good for last-minute hosting needs.

5. Best Buy

Everyone wants to watch the big game on Thanksgiving, so if you need a new television or other appliance, Best Buy is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

6. Cabela’s

Cabela’s will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving for any of your retail needs.

7. CVS

In case of any cooking injuries, CVS is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

8. Dick’s Sporting Goods

Dick’s Sporting Goods is open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Thanksgiving. This should be noted for impromptu shopping for last-minute family football games.

9. Dollar General

Dollar General is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving which is plenty of time to pick up some inexpensive items you forgot to grab.

10. Family Dollar

For other additional items you need that fit within your budget on Thanksgiving, Family Dollar is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

11. Kroger

For any pre-meal grocery needs, Kroger is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

12. Meijer

A one-stop shop with a little bit of everything to cover your random Thanksgiving necessities, Meijer will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

13. Michael’s

Sometimes, there is an arts and crafts project that needs to be done. For any hand turkeys that need to be made or other Thanksgiving décor, Michael’s is open from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Thanksgiving.

14. Old Navy

If you need to grab some pajamas or other clothing items for your cousin who decided to stay over on Thanksgiving, many Old Navy locations will be open, but the hours vary from store to store.

15. Rite Aid

The pharmacy at Rite Aid will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but the rest of the store will be open until 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

16. Safeway

Though many locations may vary, most Safeway locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

17. Sears

Most Sears locations will be opening at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving night to get a jump on those appliance deals for Black Friday.

18. Sprouts

Sprouts will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving which is perfect for a quick farmers market run before meal prep.

19. Walgreens

Walgreens will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the additional bonus of all of their 24-hour pharmacies remaining open on Thanksgiving.

20. Whole Foods

Though reducing their hours on Thanksgiving, Whole Foods will still be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stores Open on Black Friday

Many stores that are open on Thanksgiving will also be open on Black Friday. Sales, deals and hours will vary depending on location, but if you have to run to the store anyway on Thanksgiving, you might as well see what specials you can get. Black Friday deals start early on Thanksgiving for many retailers.
