Here are the 20 safest SC cities, new report says, and 2 local communities made the list

South Carolina’s 20 safest cities of last year have been revealed, according to a recent annual safety report.

Safewise.com, a popular home security and safety website, showed in its eighth annual safety report that several Lowcountry areas made the list for the top 10 safest in the Palmetto State.

Bluffton was ranked as the second safest location in South Carolina.

The study had Bluffton as one of the safest areas of the state, behind the Midlands city of Edgefield in first place, with showing Bluffton’s violent crime rate and property crime rate exponentially lowering every year since 2020.

Port Royal made 10th on the list as one of the safest cities in South Carolina with the property crime rate dropping from last year.

Violent crime in South Carolina increased again in 2022 by a rate of over 5%, and went up from 5.1 incidents per 1,000 people to 5.3. However, property crime continued on a downward trend, falling from 29.5 crimes per 1,000 people to 27.2, according to the report by safewise.com.

Across all 50 states, South Carolina reportedly had the sixth-highest rate of violent crimes and the fifth-highest rate of property crimes on a nationwide level.

Safewise.com reported that overall, the state’s safest cities collectively boast crime rates well below national averages. Yet, there’s more crime reported statewide in South Carolina than the rest of the country.

Aggravated assault was the most common violent crime in South Carolina and made up 79% of all reported incidents, which was 13% higher than the national average, according to the report.

The website used an extensive and thorough methodology to help determine the rates and safety of each city in every state throughout the country.
