The 20 Best Sitcoms on Netflix To Keep You LOLingAli Goldstein/Netflix - Netflix

Has *your* sitcom left Netflix for greener pastures on another streaming service? The one you watch over and over instead of keeping up with whatever new prestige drama is trending? It happens to the best of us. If you're finally ready to look for something new or don't feel like scrolling to see what's there... here are the best sitcoms streaming on Netflix. From original comedies to classic shows and obscure and/or foreign favorites, there are a lot of great situational comedies on the streaming service.

And remember: just because a great sitcom is on Netflix today doesn't mean it will be tomorrow. The best way to make sure the best sitcoms are available to watch (and the best way to make sure the writers and actors who made them get paid) is to own a digital or physical copy. Or just go with the flow, and find a new sitcom to watch on Netflix! Let me help you with that:

Arrested Development

It makes me laugh so much to think that if you had to describe Arrested Development to someone now, you would call it "comedy Succession." I know it's like, expected to rewatch The Office and Friends, but Arrested Development is just as easy to throw on and binge. Every episode is truly its own thing. The jokes are... the best? Even the music is unforgettable.

One Day At a Time

The reboot of Norman Lear's 1975 series is really, really good television. It told stories about sexuality and gender. It told stories about being a veteran and dealing with PTSD and military health insurance. It feels like a comforting, old-school sitcom on the outside but gets into really modern issues on the inside.

Derry Girls

Ensemble sitcoms tend to either be about a family, a group of coworkers, or friends. Derry Girls is the latter. It's about Catholic teenage girls, and one English boy, living in Northern Ireland in the 1990s at the tail end of the political turmoil known as The Troubles. But unprecedented times doesn't mean you stop being a teenager and doesn't mean that everything stops being funny.

Seinfeld

If a show is famously "about nothing," what can you say about it? I've always thought that slogan was a little silly TBH. Young adults struggling through life and love and various careers is not nothing. Just because the situations on Seinfeld are trivial in the long run doesn't mean that they're unimportant in the moment. That's relatable! And funny!

The Mindy Project

If you're addicted to Never Have I Ever, go back in time with Mindy Kaling's self-titled (ish) adult workplace/romantic sitcom. Over six seasons, Mindy Lahiri transformed her practice and fell in and out of love. The show got real about motherhood. It had a true ensemble of very different characters. If what you're looking for is a journey, I recommend this.

Kath & Kim

Deep cut alert. This is an Australian sitcom about a quirky woman and her even quirkier mother living loud in the suburbs. They may or may not be stuck in the '80s. We've all been there.

The Good Place

Want a little moral philosophy with your sitcom? This high concept comedy from the creator of Parks and Recreation takes place in a seemingly idyllic afterlife. But what good is paradise if you feel an intense imposter syndrome about being there? Should you improve yourself after death? Can you? Did I mention this show is funny? I promise it is.

Girlfriends

Before black•ish, Tracee Ellis Ross was on an iconic sitcom that ran for eight combined seasons on UPN and then The CW. (Now that I think about it, HBO turning into Max is nothing compared to when UPN and The WB combined to become The CW.) Girlfriends is about Joan, played by Ross, and her three best friends. Toni is a childhood friend, Lynn is their college friend, and Maya is her assistant. While they came into Joan's life at different times, for better or worse they're stuck with her now!

Blockbuster

So I know that Netflix making a sitcom about the video rental business they more or less destroyed is awkward. But I ended up liking this little workplace sitcom. It was canceled after one season, but like... that's not always an indication of quality and we all know it.

Lovesick

The day this show leaves Netflix is probably the day I cancel Netflix. It is my favorite, favorite show. The premise is a little ick: it's about a guy reconnecting with the various women he's dated and/or slept with because he has an STD. But through that premise he learns a lot about love and relationships, and friendships as well, and eventually figures out who The One was all along.

Community

A lot of NBC sitcoms have packed up their little rucksacks and moved to Peacock, but not Community! You can watch all six seasons, including the one that was originally roadcast on Yahoo Screen, on Netflix. And if you never watched the final season, go watch it now! It's good. Even though we're all waiting for the "and a movie" to happen, the series finale sticks the landing so well.

Great News

No, this isn't the John Krasinski quarantine show. This is a sitcom co-created by Tina Fey about a local news producer whose mother gets a job as one of her interns. Since that sounds like a nightmare scenario to me, I'm amazed they got any comedy out of it... and they do! Lots of comedy, actually!

Crashing

I love telling people about Crashing. It's a British sitcom from a pre-Fleabag Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It also stars Jonathan Bailey from Bridgerton and the Wicked movie. You can watch the whole thing in one afternoon. And it's about a group of people who take up unconventional residence in an old hospital, which creates a lot of situations for comedy.

Grace & Frankie

What happens when two women of a certain age discover that their husbands have been having an affair with each other for decades, and after all these years finally want to divorce? A lot of heartbreak, shenanigans, and oddly enough, business ventures. Netflix's original family sitcom is so, so good.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Tina Fey took her joke writing style that worked so well on 30 Rock to Netflix and exploded with The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It's bold, weird, and sometimes very dark. It's about a woman who escaped from a cult leader who kidnapped her as a child. She may have a wacky way of looking at the world, but the show eventually deals with how that's a coping mechanism. And it has a catchy theme song, as all the best sitcoms should IMHO.

American Vandal

Some might argue that this is not a sitcom, because the storylines are serialized. Each season does have an overarching mystery and only a handful of recurring characters. But I would argue that this true crime mockumentary is the funniest show on Netflix. So we're including it!

Champions

It's the Mindy Kaling sitcom you didn't know you missed! Champions is a workplace sitcom about two brothers who own a gym in Brooklyn. Josie Totah also stars as the child of one of the brothers who comes to live with them in the city in order to attend a prestigious performing arts school.

Kim's Convenience

Before Simu Liu was a Marvel superhero and a grumpy Ken with sweet dance moves, he was on a sitcom set in a family corner store. It's also a Canadian show, and if I know anything about Canada that means it's as dramatic as it is funny. (I watched Degrassi.)

Kenan & Kel

Who loves orange soda?? If you can't answer that question, stop what you're doing and watch Kenan & Kel ASAP. It's a Nickelodeon classic!

Bojack Horseman

I'm not the biggest adult animation girlie (I like Daria????) but even I must admit that this is one of the most popular and acclaimed sitcoms on Netflix. It's about a horse looking for a comeback in Hollywood years after his sitcom was the hottest thing on television. It ran for six seasons! Very impressive.
