$20,000 in grants awarded to eight local organizations from Haman Family Foundation

The Haman Family Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $20,000 to eight Tuscarawas County organizations.

Grants were awarded in March to the following:

  • Beneath the Shade, Inc.$4,000, to remodel a home to provide affordable rental housing for women in recovery from addiction and alcoholism, who are moving out of transitional housing into independent living.

  • Claymont Primary School, Dennison, $3,000, to upgrade the playground with safer, longer-lasting base material for pre-school and kindergarten students.

  • Ragersville Community Council,Baltic$3,000, for a new refrigerator and gas range for the Community Pavilion.

  • Tuscarawas County University Foundation Kent State, $3,000, to expand and stock the campus food pantry to address student hunger issues.

  • Tuscarawas County Humane Society, $2,500, for new reinforced exterior kennel doors to safely secure canines.

  • Community Hospice,$2,000,for the 2024 Youth Bereavement Camp.

  • Community Center of Southern Tuscarawas,Port Washington, $1,944, for a laptop computer, software, and two smart TVs to allow for accurate recordkeeping and future growth of programs and services for the community.

  • New Philadelphia Youth Soccer Association,$1,500, to install benches in the newly built dugouts at the high school soccer fields for student athletes, pre-school through high school.

The charitable foundation was created by the late Robert L. and Freda I. Haman, lifelong residents of the area, for the general purpose of assisting qualified charities in the county.
