2 Romanian weightlifters lose 2012 Olympic medals over doping

A pair of Romanian weightlifters have been stripped of their medals from the 2012 Olympics in London, the International Olympic Committee said Wednesday.

Roxana Cocos, 31, and Razvan Martin, 27, were disqualified after reanalyzed samples tested positive for anabolic steroids, according to the Olympic governing body.

Cocos won silver; Martin won bronze.

Gabriel Sincraian, 31, also tested positive and was disqualified, though he did not earn a medal at the 2012 Games.

The official decision from the IOC’s disciplinary commission was dated Monday.

All four of Romania’s weightlifting participants in the London Olympics have now been disqualified over banned substances.

The IOC said it has been storing and reanalyzing test results as far back as 2004 in an effort to clean up the Olympics.

“The fight against doping is a top priority for the IOC, which has established a zero-tolerance policy to combat cheating and to make anyone responsible for using or providing doping products accountable,” the committee said in a statement.
