2-year-old boy drowns in a backyard pool in north Wichita, police say

A 2-year-old boy drowned Friday afternoon in a backyard pool in north Wichita, officials said.

First responders were called to a drowning at 1:51 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Siefkin, which is near 21st and Woodlawn. CPR was given to the child, but he was pronounced dead at the home, according to Wichita police spokesperson Chad Ditch.

Ditch said the drowning happened in an in-ground pool.

Sgt. Maurice Mitchell said the boy and his brother were at a family member’s home. They were able to get outside without the family members knowing and the boy fell in the pool. Family tried to give the boy CPR before first responders arrived.
