2 injured when pickup crashes into power pole in Fort Worth police chase on Hemphill St

Two people were injured Monday night when their vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Hemphill Street while they were trying to evade Fort Worth police, according to authorities.

Police said the pursuit started when Real Time Crime Center cameras spotted a vehicle linked to a person wanted on a felony offense. Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver fled, leading to a chase.

The driver and a passenger in the white two-door pickup were hospitalized and are in police custody, according to a police spokesperson.

One person was in serious condition and the other in good condition, according to MedStar.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle hit the utility pole, downing power lines and damaging a transformer. The scene showed evidence of a possible fire.

A white pickup was twisted and tireless on the side of Hemphill Street at the intersection with West Fogg Street in south Fort Worth. Police said the downed utility pole and damaged transformer will have the street closed down for a while.

The crash was reported shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Hemphill.

The streets were closed for about two blocks in each direction at the intersection.
