Update: Brockton woman shot to death in apparent murder-suicide, DA says. What we know

BROCKTON — A female victim has been identified in the apparent murder suicide that happened in a residential neighborhood in Brockton overnight, the DA’s office said in a statement.

Brockton Police received two 911 calls at approximately 12:26 a.m. Tuesday morning, one from a neighbor who reported hearing gunshots and another from someone inside a home, located at 524 Ash St., who reported an unresponsive male, the DA’s office said.

Upon arrival, first responders located a female with multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of the residence. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries, according to the DA’s office.

She has been identified by the DA’s office as 65-year-old Sharon Towers.

What investigators believe happened

When Brockton Police entered the home, they found 61-year-old Carlos Brown deceased in the living room with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the DA’s office said.

According to the DA’s office, it appears that Towers was just arriving home from a trip to Jamaica when she was ambushed by Brown. Her luggage was still in the driveway, they said.

A note was reportedly found at the residence, but police have not commented on its contents.

Towers and Brown were in a domestic relationship and had a history of domestic violence, according to the DA's office.

Officials urge anyone in a life-threatening relationship to seek help.

Brockton police and the Massachusetts State Police will continue to investigate the incident.

Second fatal shooting since Sunday

The shooting comes two days after 27-year-old Sedrick Abreu was killed in a shooting on Easter morning on Hoover Avenue. Abreu's brother, Sirick Amado, 24, of Brockton, was charged with accessory before the fact to murder and another man, Antonio Dejesus, 26, of Taunton, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. They both pleaded not guilty.

Another brother of the victim, Jeremiah Abreu, 20, is being sought by police on a murder charge.
