The MLB All Star Game is just around the corner, but two Houston Astros players revealed that they won’t be in attendance despite getting voted onto the American League team.

Infielders Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa shared on Thursday that they won’t play in this year’s Midsummer Classic. Although both players have had stellar seasons, and been a major part of the Astros early success, each one decided that a few days off would be beneficial for the latter half of the year.

Correa revealed that he pulled out of the game specifically to spend time with his wife Daniella, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child.

“It’s a tough decision,” Correa said, per Julia Morales. “People voted for me to be in it. People want to see me play in it, but we’ve been trying now for a long time to have our first child and now that it’s finally there in her belly, I want to be able to spend those days with her and get to enjoy the whole experience, go to the doctor’s appointments and see the baby on the sonograms and everything. I really want to enjoy that part.

The Astros second-baseman followed suit soon after, saying that he wanted to take the few days off to rest an ailing left leg.

“I really want to thank everybody that voted for me, that believe in me,” Altuve said when talking with reporters on Thursday, per Mark Berman of FOX 26. “I really need these four days. I’m putting my team first because I really think we have a chance to win this year.”

Both players expressed their hopes that their withdrawals would allow Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel to earn a spot in the game. Michael Brantley and Ryan Pressly remain on the American League roster as the lone Houston representatives, as of right now.

The Astros are 54-33 through the first half of the 2021 season, good enough to hold one of the best records in MLB.
