1A Division I All-Idaho football team: The exclusive list of the first and second teams

Note: The All-Idaho teams are chosen by a vote of the state’s coaches. The Idaho Statesman hosts the vote and publishes the results.

1A DIVISION I ALL-IDAHO PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Porter Pickett, Oakley

The senior is used to dominating the 8-man ranks as part of the Hornets’ defensive line. This season, he added his talents as the starting quarterback, powering Oakley to the state title. He threw for 1,863 yards with 25 TDs and six INTs. And he added 640 yards and 13 TDs on the ground. He also had 54 tackles, five sacks and an interception.

“Porter was the most dominant player on the field, no matter the position,” Genesee coach Justin Podrabsky said.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Brennan Jones, Oakley

He led the Hornets to the first three-peat in Idaho 8-man history to win his third straight coach of the year honor.

FIRST TEAM

OFFENSE

QB: Tate Whitaker, Raft River

The senior threw for 1,758 yards and 27 TDs while adding 903 yards and 13 TDs in the running game.

RB: Conner Simpson, Carey

Last year’s 1A-DII Player of the Year, the senior totaled 1,309 yards and 17 TDs, setting a Carey record with 580 career points.

RB: Treyton Allen, Butte County

A hard-nosed runner, the senior tore up opposing defenses with 1,078 rushing yards and 20 TDs.

WR: Jack DeJong, Lighthouse Christian

The junior has the physical attributes to also play tight end. That showed with 1,054 receiving yards and 15 TDs.

TE: Dallon Draper, Grace

He helped the Grizzlies reach the state title game with 668 receiving yards, 444 rushing yards and 17 total TDs.

OL: Teegan Kirkland, Carey

The 5-7, 200-pound center helped block for over 4,000 rushing yards, guiding the Panthers to the state semifinals.

OL: Porter Whipple, Kamiah

Also a first-team defensive lineman, the 6-2, 220-pound junior served as the point of attack for the Kubs’ ground game.

OL: Kooper Beck, Oakley

The leader of the Hornets’ offensive line, the 6-foot junior helped the Hornets rack up 73 total touchdowns.

K: Kai Ward, Raft River

The sophomore drilled 14 kickoffs for touchbacks and executed three successful onside kicks for the Trojans.

DEFENSE

DL: Porter Whipple, Kamiah

A leader in the trenches, he bullied opposing offenses with 78 tackles, 16 sacks and 27 tackles for loss.

DL: Nik Versis, Carey

The heart and soul of the Panthers’ defensive line, the 5-9 junior racked up 122 tackles, two interceptions and a pick six.

DL: Huston Bingham, Oakley

Oakley coach Brennan Jones calls him a human wrecking ball. The senior proved it with 109 tackles and seven sacks.

LB: Dallon Draper, Grace

The senior did it all on the Grizzlies’ defense, notching 100 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries.

LB: Ethan Toribau, Oakley

An excellent tackler who packs a punch, the 6-foot, 185-pound senior provided 83 tackles, two sacks and two fumble recoveries.

LB: Carsn Perkes, Carey

Carey coach Lane Kirkland described the senior as a nasty player with smarts. He proved it with 97 tackles and three INTs.

DB: Isaac Cranney, Oakley

The junior also shined as a receiver and punter. But his strong tackling skills led to 77 stops with seven INTs.

DB: David Kludt, Kamiah

The 6-5 sophomore was the ballhawk of the Kubs’ defense, recording 10 INTs and 29 tackles.

P: Rebel Beard, Butte County

A repeat first-team All-Idaho selection, the senior averaged 36.6 yards a punt with four downed inside the 20-yard line.
