19-year-old motorcyclist dies overnight in accident on Northwest Side

A 19-year-old motorcyclist fatally struck a vehicle overnight on the Northwest Side, Chicago police said.

At about 2 a.m. Tuesday, the man was traveling west in the 5600 block of West Irving Park Road at a high rate of speed when he disregarded a red light and struck a vehicle on the driver’s side, police said.

The man suffered major trauma to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the struck vehicle, 21, suffered a laceration to the face and right leg and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was listed in good condition.

The Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
