At least 19 of Kentucky’s 171 school districts have announced closures or used home learning days due to illness at some point in November, according to the Kentucky School Boards Association.

Flu has most often been announced as the reason for canceling in-person classes.

Late Thursday night, Scott County Schools near Lexington closed school for Friday.

“Schools in Scott County will be CLOSED on Friday, November 4, 2022 due to illness of students and staff and unfilled substitute positions,” a statement from the district said. “We have continually monitored staff absences throughout the evening and have reached an unsustainable number of absences for the safety of our students.”

Other districts, such as Bourbon County Schools, have announced they won’t be returning to class until Wednesday.

Other school districts that have closed already in November include Carter, Magoffin, Raceland-Worthington, Ballard, McCracken, Crittenden, Wayne, Owen, Williamstown, Fleming, Paris, Clark, Madison, Berea, Powell, Wolfe and Jackson, according to the KSBA.
