CHILLICOTHE— Disc golfers get ready to throw another ace at the new disc golf course at Metahqua Nature Preserve.

The course is part of the 234-acre preserve that features a hardwood forest, a large pond, wetlands and is home to several species of wildlife. Currently, there are 18 holes available to players that weave throughout the land on minimally invasive paths.

Myranda Vance, Executive Director of the Ross County Park District, said depending on how well used the course is another nine holes may be added at a later date.

This project was assisted by Project Bad Apple, a group that has helped install multiple disc golf courses in the area.

To celebrate the grand opening a ribbon-cutting celebration was held on May 17. To make it special instead of using the giant scissors park district members cut the ribbon across the starting spot with a flying disc.

Vance said she hopes that this course helps bring more people to the park as it gives them one more way to spend time in nature, especially in Metahqua which is considered more natural and rustic.

"You're not going to find anything prettier than here," said Vance.

Metahqua Nature Preserve is located at 3663 Walnut Creek Road in Chillicothe.
