17-year-old dead, 1 injured in crash near Tatum

RUSK COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A 17-year-old is dead and a 23-year-old is injured after a crash last week, 5.5 miles southeast of Tatum on State Highway 149.

A preliminary report from DPS said that a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was stopped at the intersection of FM 782 and SH 149 around 7:56 a.m. on March 15 and turned left “failing to yield” to a 2019 Ford F-350 pickup that was traveling southeast on SH 149.

Officials said the Ford struck the Chevrolet on its left side, and both drivers were taken to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 17-year-old Jerry Brantley, of Tatum, was later pronounced dead.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
