17-year-old, 11-year-old arrested in robbery of elderly Asian man near San Francisco

A 17-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy were arrested Wednesday and accused of robbing an 80-year-old Asian man in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The unidentified suspects were arrested four days after the Saturday afternoon caught-on-camera attack in San Leandro, across the bay from San Francisco.

Video showed two young men shoving the older man to the ground, punching him and then ripping off his watch. A third, even younger male then meandered over but did not physically assault the elderly man.

The man suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized, police said.

San Leandro police said the 11-year-old boy was arrested while driving a stolen vehicle, which had been carjacked Monday in Oakland.

Cops said the same group of boys were suspected of attacking a 19-year-old Hispanic woman and stealing her purse hours after the Asian man was assaulted.

The victim believes he was targeted because he is Asian, local ABC affiliate KGO reported. Police said there was no evidence of that, but they were pursuing all possible leads.

San Leandro police did not mention anything about a third suspect being arrested.
