16 and Pregnant’s Sean Garinger Killed in Tragic ATV Accident
Sean Garinger, whose journey to fatherhood was documented in a Season 6 episode of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, died in a tragic ATV accident on Feb. 28, according to his mother. Garinger was just 20 years old.
Mary Hobbs, who also appeared on the MTV docuseries, says the accident occurred outside of her son’s home in Boone, N.C., telling the U.S. Sun that “the ground gave way from all the rain and mud,” causing Garinger’s ATV to flip and crush his skull.
Known to his friends as “Squishy,” the South Dakota native is described in his obituary as “military brat who touched lives all around the country. He never knew a stranger, regardless of age, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His kind and generous nature endeared him to all who knew him.”
“Sean had a passion for living life to the fullest,” the remembrance continues. “He enjoyed driving RC cars, sky diving, shark diving, dirt bikes, flying his drone, driving ATVs, surfing, and spending time in the ocean. His adventurous spirit and love for excitement were evident in all aspects of his life.”

Garinger’s episode of 16 and Pregnant, which aired on March 16, 2021, chronicled the arrival of his and Selena Gutierrez’s daughter Dareli. They later welcomed a second daughter named Esmi.
