16 Christmas events in Beaufort to get some holiday cheer. Here’s when, where and their cost

December is here and the holiday festivities have begun. If you’re looking for any Christmas-related activities in the area, you’re in luck.

This year, there are many holiday events to partake in locally.

Here are 16 Christmas activities and events going on in Beaufort County this month.

Hilton Head Island

  • Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 171 Cordillo Parkway on the island, will be hosting their annual Christmas Community Walk Dec. 9-10 from 6-8 p.m. At the event will be a Christmas story trail, nativity, movies, Santa live music, lights, hayrides, snow, bonfires, hot dogs and s’mores. There will be a $5 entry fee at the door and children ages 5 and under will get in for free. All funds from this event will go to benefit the Thornwell Children’s Home.

  • Historic Holidays on Hilton Head Island will be taking place on Dec. 10 from noon until 4 p.m. at the USCB- Hilton Head campus, which can be found at 1 Sand Shark Drive.

    This event promises attendees the chance to obtain authors’ signatures on books for the holidays, shop with local artists and basket makers and have the kids listen to holiday stories for children while munching on free milk and cookies. In addition, there will be a holiday tea service, sweet and savory holiday tasting and a cash bar, according to the event.

    To attend, there will be a $15 Entrance Fee to Support The Heritage Library or a $35 option that includes entrance and tea service. Children Under 12 are admitted for free.   • Family Christmas Movie Night at Hilton Head Island Community Church, located at 860 William Hilton Parkway, will take place on Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. This event is free to attend and will offer free pizza and popcorn. Kids and parents can come in their Christmas pajamas to watch a showing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in the church’s backstage and Worship Center.

  • The Coastal Discovery Museum, found at 70 Honey Horn Drive, is hosting a Lowcountry event on Dec. 15 from 5-7 p.m. where attendees will have the opportunity to create their own Sweetgrass ornament by using locally resourced, natural materials.

  • The Christmas Strings and Sing-a-Long event will be held on Dec. 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, which can be found at 45 Beach City Road. Attendees will be able to enjoy a performance of a professional string quintet performing many Christmas classics that will feature musicians from the Charleston Symphony and the College of Charleston. General admission for this event is $25 and a student ticket for admission is $10. Ticket sales end on the day of the performance.   • Holiday Fun in Harbour Town is set to take place this year Dec. 27-29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. under the Liberty Oak Tree in Harbor Town. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch holiday movie classics, roast marshmallows, and enjoy taking a train ride around the harbor. This event is complimentary with the donation of any canned food item. Food donations will go to the Deep Well Project. Train rides will be $5 per passenger. Bluffton

  • Wondrous Wednesdays with Santa at the Tanger Outlets will be occurring on the remaining Wednesdays on Dec. 7, 14 and 21 from 9-10 a.m. Santa will be found at Jumpin’ Jellybeans in Tanger 1. Attendees will get the chance to enjoy free cookies and milk while listening to Santa Claus read “The Elf on the Shelf” at this free event. In addition, Jumpin’ Jellybeans will be offering 20% off their open play all day for everyone who attends this event.

    In addition, up until Dec. 24, families will have the opportunity to take part in a Holiday Scavenger Hunt with the Elf on the Shelf at the Tanger Outlets. All you will have to do is pick up a Tanger Outlets Activity Book. If you choose to participate, shoppers will be able to enter to win a $250 gift card for everyone who completes the scavenger hunt. Activity books can be picked up at Shopper Services or a digital version can be downloaded online.

  • The Town of Bluffton will be hosting the last Movie Nights at Town Parks of this year. The final film will take place on Dec. 16 at Martin Family Park from 6-8 p.m. The movie showing will be “Elf” at this free event. In addition, a bounce house and games will begin at 5 p.m.

Port Royal/Beaufort area

  • The Beaufort County annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be taking place on Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Beaufort County Courthouse Plaza. The gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m. and the event is free to the public. At the event, there will be an appearance by a special guest from the North Pole arriving in his sleigh as well as face painting, food trucks and music. Food trucks at this event will be ready by 5:30 p.m. and will be available throughout the event. Parking will be available at the Main Administration Building located at 100 Ribaut Road.

  • The Port Royal Golf Cart Parade is set to take place on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. and will end at Shellring Ale Works. Line up for this event begins at 5:30 p.m. A party following the parade will take place at Shellring Ale Works and will feature free photographs with Santa, Christmas music, a s’mores bar, face painting, an ugly sweater contest, and an appearance from the Grinch.

  • Lowcountry Holiday Craft Market is set to take place on Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Highway 21 Drive-In Theater, which is located at 55 Parker Drive in Beaufort. There will be food, Santa, giveaways and many local craft vendors and artists.

Additional events

  • The Hardeeville Christmas Parade is set to take place on Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Hardeeville. Afterward, attendees will have the chance to make their way to the Richard Gray Recreation Complex to enjoy the rest of the Hardeeville Holly Days. This will continue until 8 p.m. following the parade. The 2022 City of Hardeeville Christmas Parade will be held rain or shine, regardless of the weather.

  • Brendlen’s Lowcountry Christmas Light Display at 1570 Driggers Lane in Ridgeland will be occurring every night until Dec. 31 from 6-10 p.m. This display is free and open to the public. On Dec. 10 from 5-8 p.m. there will be cookie decorating, face painting, Christmas ornament decorating, hot chocolate, desserts, hot dogs and popcorn, a special appearance by Olaf and Elsa and a visit with Santa that will include a toy. The Dec. 10 event is also free, but donations are accepted and appreciated. All donations will go to Caring Hearts of SC.
