What horse is favored to win the Kentucky Derby?
The horses with the current best odds, according to CBS Sports, are Sierra Leone at Post 2, trained by Chad Brown and jockeyed by Tyler Gafflione, and Fierceness at Post 13, trained by Todd Pletcher and jockeyed by the three-time Kentucky Derby winner, John Velazquez.
Interestingly, Fierceness is starting at post-17, which has never produced a winner in the 94 years the starting gate has existed.

How many horses are in the 2024 Kentucky Derby?
There are 20 posts in the Kentucky Derby, and while there are 20 horses in total slated to race, there are two additional "also-eligible" horses that will take the place of any horse "scratched," or removed from the race before it begins. The also-eligible horses this year are Epic Ride (#21) and Mugatu (#22).
