Inter Miami may appeal MLS decision on Fountas racism charge

Inter Miami coach Phil Neville said he is “disappointed” with MLS findings in the probe into allegations that D.C. United player Taxi Fountas used a racist slur against an Inter Miami player. The league found Miami’s charge “credible” and Fountas’ denial “not credible” but could not independently prove the allegation so no punishment was issued.

Miami defender Aime Mabika said he heard Fountas direct a slur at defender Damion Lowe after Lowe and Fountas had an altercation during a Sept. 18 game.

“I trust my players,” Neville said. “I feel as if racism is such an important topic and a subject that we can’t hide away from, that we can’t sweep under the table. I still to this day back my players, that the racism happened on that pitch.”

Neville said the club is in talks with MLS to see if the decision can be challenged.
