A 14-year-old boy who was on a mini-motor bike was seriously injured Tuesday when he was struck by a sports utility vehicle on a White Settlement Road, police said.

The boy was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he remains in serious condition with a head injury and broken bones.

The driver of the SUV stopped after the accident.

White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook said an investigation is underway. But the chief noted that the bike was not street legal, and a 14-year old cannot operate a motorcycle at that age on a public street. The boy was not wearing a helmet.

White Settlement police responded to the crash at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday at South Cherry Lane and Gibbs Drive. The accident occurred near Brewer Middle School at lunchtime.

The boy was traveling eastbound on Gibbs Drive when the SUV heading northbound on South Cherry Lane struck him.

The bike ended up under the vehicle and caught fire, the police chief said.

“Please keep him in your prayers,” Cook posted on Twitter.
