From eye creams to vitamin C serums, drugstore skincare has evolved in recent years to the point where you can now find quality products for almost every step of your skincare routine at an affordable price point. But the standout drugstore skincare brand that nearly every dermatologist I’ve ever spoken to loves is La-Roche Posay. In fact, my first introduction to the brand was when I started my Accutane journey, and my dermatologist recommended I start using La Roche-Posay’s Lipikar AP+ Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream day and night. I’m convinced that this moisturizer is what shielded me from severe dryness while I was taking the medication.
“La Roche-Posay is a brand I recommend to my patients frequently. It is owned by L’Oreal and, therefore, has access to their research and development. It has the feel of a luxury brand but is accessible to everyone,” says Dr. Rosalyn George, a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Wilmington Dermatology Center in Wilmington, NC.
Dr. Anna Karp, a board-certified dermatologist at the Skin Institute of New York in New York City, also applauds the brand’s constant innovation and attention to its ingredients. “Many of the products feature the thermal spring water from the town of La Roche-Posay in France. It is rich in minerals and antioxidants with many anti-inflammatory properties,” she adds.
No matter your skin type or concern, you can bet your bottom dollar that La Roche-Posay will save the day with formulas that clarify, soothe, and protect. ELLE editors tested a plethora of the brand’s products, pored over customer feedback, and polled three dermatologists to create this master list of the 14 best La Roche-Posay products. La Roche-Posay, consider the guide below a love letter.

It also contains the La Roche-Posay prebiotic thermal spring water, which offers soothing antioxidant benefits. It’s non-comedogenic, and it rubs in easily without leaving the skin feeling greasy,” gushes Dr. Garshick.

I dabble in other moisturizers here and there, but I always come back to this one. I’ve lost count of the number of bottles I’ve used up—and they’re pretty big bottles!” —Carol Lee, ELLE.com associate beauty e-commerce writer

Still, this one from La-Roche Posay is a favorite because it doesn’t leave behind a white cast and nourishes my skin with ceramides and niacinamide. The finished skin is glowing and semi-protected, but that’s where diligent reapplication comes in.” —Nerisha Penrose, ELLE.com beauty commerce editor

This sunscreen combines two steps into one: an anti-aging serum and an SPF 50 sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB filters. The fact that it provides SPF 50 protection blows my mind.” —Carol Lee
Mela B3 Serum
Many products claim to banish dark spots, but not all dark spot correctors are created equal. “The latest to launch from La Roche Posay, this serum can be a great option to help with hyperpigmentation. Who said your everything shower had to be complicated to be effective?” —Danielle James
Anthelios Melt-In Milk Body & Face Sunscreen SPF 60
Many of the people I know who refuse to wear sunscreen even at the beach complain about sunscreen’s greasy, tacky finish. If you are one of those people (or know someone with similar quibbles), I recommend trialing this sunscreen. Many users report feeling like they’re not wearing sunscreen at all because of how rapidly it absorbs, and it stays water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, so you can sweat and swim worry-free. “I used it on a recent Caribbean trip with no evidence of a week in the sun,” says Dr. George.
Key ingredients: Avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene, La Roche-Posay thermal spring water

Cicaplast Balm B5
This shea butter- and glycerin-packed product is so gentle that you can use it on babies as young as a week. “I carry around a Cicaplast Balm B5 with me at all times; it is great for any skin irritation and after any sort of procedure,” says Dr. Karp. If you deal with dry or redness-prone skin, it’s definitely worth a try.

It creates a protective barrier that aids in the recovery of my cracked skin, providing relief from dryness and preventing further irritation. The anti-inflammatory properties have noticeably reduced the red blotches, contributing to a more even and calm complexion.”
Lipikar AP+ Gentle Foaming Moisturizing Wash
This face and body wash leaves skin silky soft, thanks to the shea butter, glycerin, and niacinamide tucked into its formula. It’s lovely for sensitive skin. However, as a rule, always make sure to patch-test any new products you’re introducing into your routine.

Size: 13.52 fl. oz.
Amazon rating: 4.7/5 stars
An Amazon reviewer says: “I was on the hunt for a moisturizing cleanser for my dry, sensitive skin. This cleanser has been amazing. The bottle is huge and lasted several months for me after using it daily. I am now on my second bottle, and don’t see myself stopping! It is very hydrating. It does bubble up, which I like. Some hydrating cleansers I’ve used don’t do that. It has not irritated my skin whatsoever. I will definitely be repurchasing.”
Redermic R Eyes Retinol Eye Cream
One dermatologist-recommended way to deal with crow’s feet is to invest in a retinol eye cream and use it consistently. This one also de-puffs with caffeine and combats free radical damage with the antioxidants in the brand’s thermal spring water.
Key ingredients: Retinol, caffeine, La Roche-Posay thermal spring water
Size: 0.5 fl. oz.
Amazon rating: 4.3/5 stars
An Amazon reviewer says: “I was hesitant to try this product as I have previously had no better results with higher-priced eye creams than with lower-priced creams. I can tell a difference using this one, both in terms of reducing the puffiness that is always under my eyes and making my dark circles lighter. I am someone who really needs a good product for my eyes—late 60s, allergies that make my eyes look worse, and hereditary dark circles and eye bags from both parents. I do recommend this product.”
Micellar Cleansing Water
Micellar water has many purposes, but my favorite is using it as the last step of my cleansing routine to ensure that I get every last bit of concealer and mascara off. This one is a no-rinse formula, so you don’t have to go through the extra step of washing it off like some other similar products.
Key ingredients: Micelles, poloxamer, glycerin, La Roche-Posay thermal spring water
Size: 13.5 oz.
Amazon rating: 4.7/5 stars
An Amazon reviewer says: “This stuff is legit. Cleans everything off my face before I use a gentle cleanser. Even when I go out and use a foundation with more coverage…no breakouts. I will use this forever!”
Meet the Experts
Dr. Rosalyn George is a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Wilmington Dermatology Center in Wilmington, NC.
Dr. Anna Karp is a board-certified dermatologist at the Skin Institute of New York in New York City.
Dr. Marisa Garshick is an NYC-based board-certified dermatologist and clinical assistant professor at Cornell University.
What’s the best way to get acquainted with La Roche-Posay
Dr. Garshick recommends introducing one formula at a time to see how it interacts with your skin. “When developing a skincare routine, it is important to remember that less is more. Especially when starting out, a simple routine tends to be the most effective, incorporating essentials like a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. If you have particular concerns or are looking to help prevent signs of skin aging, then it can also help to incorporate a serum, such as an antioxidant, or other ingredients like retinol or exfoliating acid,” she explains. Dr. George agrees and usually starts people off with a moisturizer “since everyone can use a moisturizer,” she says.
Can you combine La Roche-Posay products with products from other brands?
Yes, yes you can. “While the LRP line offers a way to build an entire skincare routine just with LRP products, the LRP products can definitely be combined with products from other brands. Because the LRP products are gentle on the skin, they are easy to layer with other products,” says Dr. Garshick.
Dr. George concurs that you may mix and match as you please. “For instance, I may use a less expensive cleanser and then add a La Roche-Posay moisturizer or a more expensive vitamin C,” she explains.
