Spurge (Euphorbia) is an annual plant with green foliage and small, white flowers that offers a simple and clean look, says Damon Abdi of the Hammond Research Station at Louisiana State University's AgCenter. It's a relatively low-maintenance plant that also looks great in containers.

• Size: 12 to 18 inches tall x 12 to 18 inches wide

Lantana

Increase your home's curb appeal by incorporating bursts of color with lantana, a pollinator-friendly perennial that can tolerate a wide range of conditions. "Lantana's flower colors come in a spectrum, oftentimes oranges, yellows, reds, purples, pinks are common," says Abdi, adding that some flowers even form blooms with multiple colors.

"Glossy, pine green foliage is what sets off these rose-pink and white trumpets held in great profusion for summer into fall," says Chuck Pavlich, director of new product development for Terra Nova Nurseries. You can even find bumblebees napping inside the flowers of this pollinator-friendly plant.

Blue Daze

Spider Flower

Angelonia

Angelonia (Angelonia angustifolia) is similar in appearance to snapdragon and produces beautiful blooms that range in color from pink and purple to blue and white, says Abdi. This plant looks best when it's correctly watered. Not overwatering allows the color of angelonia's blooms to flourish once established.

Delphinium 'Diamonds Blue'

Coral bells (Heuchera) is native to North America and thrives in lots of different situations. For an especially beautiful variety, consider Heuchera 'Paris'. "Mint green leaves are overlayed with misty silver shadings and provide the footing for the spectacular flower display for months in spring and summer," says Pavlich. "Fresh, hot pink flowers are produced continuously and attract butterflies and pollinators to the garden."

Bergenia ‘Spring Fling’

Similar in appearance to azalea, bergenia 'Spring Fling' is one of the earliest garden flowers. The candy-pink blooms are clustered at the top of the stems for a showy display. This low-maintenance flower attracts early spring pollinators, like Mason bees and hummingbirds.

Polemonium ‘Hurricane Ridge’

This plant is inspired by the populations of native polemonium growing on top of Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park in Washington State. The 10-year long breeding project produced a low mounding, very hardy plant with fragrant sky-blue flowers and fern-like foliage, says Pavlich.

Tiarella 'Spring Symphony'

Tiarella 'Spring Symphony' is a tried-and-true favorite. "Clusters of pink-and-white fragrant flowers float over star-shaped emerald-green leaves, each segment striped with black on the midrib," says Pavlich. "In the fall, the black turns rust red and glows as the winter progresses."

Echinacea Fresco 'Apricot'

The petals are held together by a copper-red button, which emits a wonderful perfume that attracts butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, says Pavlich.
