124 snakes removed from Maryland home where man was found dead

More than 100 snakes, some that were venomous, were pulled out of a Maryland house, days after the homeowner was found dead inside.

At least 124 reptiles, including a highly venomous black mamba, cobras and rattlesnakes, were removed by a North Carolina snake expert, WJLA reported Friday.

David Riston, 49, was found dead Wednesday after a neighbor, who hadn’t seen him in a while, spotted him lying in the middle of the kitchen.

Riston was declared dead at the scene. Investigators saw no obvious signs of foul play.

An official cause of death is pending an autopsy, but sources told WJLA that snake bites were noticeable on his body.

Riston had a state-issued permit to own snakes at home, but not poisonous ones.

“The man, the myth, the legend,” his daughter, Emily, wrote on Facebook. “Still in shock. He is genuinely our best friends always making us laugh and keeping the peace. My family deeply mourns a loss today.”
