Aging doesn't always have its perks, but this list of discounts might add some pizzazz to the fact of getting older and help cut costs for retirees. Starting at age 50 (though AARP membership is open to anyone 18 or older), seniors can cash in on numerous deals just for being born on or before the date required for the bargain. Simply flash an ID to collect on most discounts, although some apply only to AARP members and some are offered only by select chain franchisees. These discounts might make retirement a little more fulfilling.

Allstate Roadside Assistance

This luxury line of international hotels and resorts from the Hilton brand offers seniors 65 and older up to 7% off.

Cornell University
If you're a retiree and always wanted to attend an Ivy League school, Cornell will let you take up to six credit hours at no charge. In fact, many schools offer seniors free or cheap classes.
Corner Bakery
This chain of cafes offers AARP members 10% off — note, though, that the discount cannot be applied to online or delivery orders.
Costco Membership Prescription Program
Though not senior-specific, this program is "a prescription drug discount card program that provides eligible Costco members and their eligible dependents with the ability to obtain lower prices at participating pharmacies."

According to AARP, "when you use your free Rx discount card at CVS Pharmacy, a participating retail pharmacy of AARP Prescription Discounts provided by OptumRx, you can save on all FDA-approved medications." Anyone can use this free discount program, but AARP members save more and receive other benefits.
Denny's
The ubiquitous eatery frequented by travelers across the country offers 15% off for AARP members and a special menu with lower prices for guests 55 and older at some locations.
Econo Lodge

El Pollo Loco
This Mexican food chain offers diners 60 and older a 10% discount up to a maximum value of $1.

IHOP
No need for a coupon at IHOP, another traveler-friendly diner found all across the country. A special menu of pancakes, eggs, and French toast is already discounted for senior diners, starting at age 55.
Intercontinental Hotels Group
This sprawling hotel chain makes discounts on regular room rates at participating hotels "available" to anyone who is 62 or older or has a member ID card for a retired persons organization, but rates vary by location. In the past, the discounts have been as high as 15%.
Jiffy Lube
Some Jiffy Lube locations offer a senior discount, but each franchisee handles it differently. Call ahead if you're curious about the discount at your nearest location.
Joe's Crab Shack
AARP members get 10% off at this seafood chain. The discount does not apply to alcoholic beverages, however.
Kingsmill Resort
Just outside the historic grounds and theme parks of Williamsburg, Virginia, this resort offers AARP members a discount of up to 10%.
Kohl's
Kohl’s is typically a hotbed of sales. Starting at age 60, Kohl's shoppers can show an ID to claim a 15% discount on Wednesdays at this department store chain.
Kroger Pharmacy
Like at CVS, a free Rx discount card at Kroger Pharmacy, a participating retail pharmacy of AARP Prescription Discounts provided by OptumRx, saves cardholders on all FDA-approved medications. AARP members save more and receive other benefits.
La Quinta Inns and Suites
La Quinta Inns and Suites offers AARP members up to 10% off the best available room rates, as well an a non-AARP discount for those 60+.
Landry’s Seafood House
AARP members can see their bill scaled back by 10% at this seafood chain (though not for alcoholic beverages).

AARP members get 50% off prescription lenses with purchase of frames, 30% off non-prescription sunglasses, and a $55 eye exam.

The National Hearing Test
AARP members get a free annual telephone hearing test through this service.
National Parks
The bad news is that the $10 lifetime pass for U.S. citizens and residents 62 and over now costs $80, although there's an annual pass for $20. The upside is that you still get into every national park for the rest of your life for that price, and you get discounts on certain amenities.

The Oceanaire Seafood Room

Portland Community College
Those 62 and older can audit courses for no credit for free, but can also take certain credited courses for a 50% discount. Even when courses are taken for free, however, fees still apply.
Public Transportation
Just about every public transportation system offers some kind of discount for seniors. But in Portland, Oregon, the Trimet public transportation system considers seniors 65+ "honored citizens" who get half-price tickets per trip and pay less than one-third of the price of a monthly pass.
