Basically, a thriller is a movie that is meant to—in some way—keep you on the edge of your seat and filled with excitement. A thriller can be about politics or spies or crimes, but it can also be about sharks or natural disasters or a talented pig being stolen from Nicolas Cage.
Thrillers can easily overlap with other genres. So, if you don't like horror, don't choose Spree from the list below. If you really can't deal with sharks, there's two movies for you to avoid. And if you are sensitive to violence and gore, please, please, please, do not watch a certain Christian Bale selection.

Taken 2
You won’t get to start your Taken journey on Hulu, but you can watch the 2012 sequel. Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills. And this time: He’s taken. That is to say, he’s kidnapped himself in relation to the revenge he got on his daughter’s (Maggie Grace) kidnappers in the first time around.
Deep Water
Former couple Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas star in the 2022 erotic thriller Deep Water, which is based on the Patricia Highsmith book of the same name. It’s about a married couple who are taking part in an open relationship… and murder?!? You’ll have to watch to find out.
47 Meters Down
If you’re afraid of sharks, beware, because 47 Meters Down stars Mandy Moore and Claire Holt as sisters who go cage diving while on vacation in Mexico. Of course, everything goes as wrong as possible, and they end up trapped at the bottom of the ocean surrounded by sharks and running out of oxygen. It’s tense AF, basically.
The Meg
Sharks are thrilling, okay? And 2018's The Meg is about scientists who find a giant one. Like, really giant. An ancient megalodon—aka “meg.” The cast includes Jason Statham, Rainn Wilson, Li Bingbing, and Ruby Rose.
Pig
From sharks to pigs. Pig (2021) stars Nicolas Cage as a solitary truffle hunter, who lives off the grid with his truffle-hunting pig. But, when the pig is kidnapped (pignapped?), he must return to his chef past in Portland, Oregon in search of the skilled swine.
Blade Runner 2049
The sequel to the cult 1982 sci-fi thriller Blade Runner came out in 2017—35 years later. Harrison Ford returns as Rick Deckard and is joined by Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, and Jared Leto. The story is much more complicated than this, but put as simply as possible: Bioengineered human “replicants” exist and that makes for a very messy situation on near-future Earth.
Spree
Stranger Things star Joe Keery stars in this 2020 thriller/horror movie/satire about a driver for a rideshare app called Spree, who tires to go viral by filming himself killing passengers. Yikes, yikes, yikes.
The Day After Tomorrow
The 2004 disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow is full of thrills as the characters try to survive superstorms that threaten to send the Earth into an ice age. Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, and Emmy Rossum star.
