11 Brockton school employees topped $200K in 2023 — including 3 getting paid not to work

BROCKTON — In 2023, nearly 900 people earned at least $100,000 working for the Brockton Public Schools.

That's one takeaway from a close look at salary data for the calendar year 2023.

Eleven school workers grossed $200,000 or more. They include three top officials who remain on paid leave amid the school deficit crisis: Superintendent Mike Thomas, Chief Financial Officer Aldo Petronio and his lieutenant, Chris Correia. This data includes pay from when the city put them on leave in fall 2023 through Dec. 31, 2023. The city has kept the trio on paid leave throughout 2024 as investigations continue into their roles in the financial debacle. Correia has sought legal protection as a whistle-blower, saying he pleaded with his superior to act sooner as Correia grasped the scale of the deficit.

Thomas topped the list with a compensation of $278,605. The top 10 includes deputy superintendents in charge of learning and teaching, human resources, transportation and operations.

School Police Officer Jason P. Mosley made the top 10 by supplementing his $111,636 base pay with more than $60,000 in overtime, $14,639 working outside details and nearly $7,000 in hazard pay. A former Brockton High School student and his father have sued the city and Mosley over a Nov. 17, 2021 incident in which Mosley appeared to kneel on the student's neck while handcuffing him. That case is now in federal court.
