10 things to do in Shreveport and Bossier to unwind and celebrate Mom this weekend

Whether you’re looking for a quick, 10-minute creation or something more in depth, High Gravity Glassworks offers a number of DIY workshops to create one-of-a-kind glass pieces. You can choose what object you want to create and the colors, then apply, inflate and use the necessary tools to shape.

It’s time for a little fun in the sun. #PaddleWebster this weekend by bringing your kayak, canoe, or pirogue for a 5-mile adventure on Lake Bistineau. Rentals will be available through Bayou Dorcheat Rentals. Stick around after the paddle for a fish fry and live entertainment.

Yoga in the Park

Story Trail

Jump in every second Saturday of the month for a stroll along a trail at the Red River Wildlife Refuge while reading a monthly book. The event also features crafts and educational mini-activities for children and all ages related to the book. These sessions take place at both the education center and visitor center.

Third annual Heart and Hardware BBQ Cookoff

This year is all about the people! While Ivey’s annual BBQ cookoff will happen from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., guests can enjoy their own taste during the People’s Choice voting beginning at 11 a.m. This is a Barbecue Competitors Alliance (BCA) sanctioned event. Proceeds from this cookoff will benefit Arvad Ministries’ House of Grace and UNITE - A Foster Care Ministry.

Parking Lot Concerts

Ever seen a band play at a library? No one’s saying “shhh” to this one (mostly because it’s outside). Library patrons are encouraged to enjoy the sounds of The Broadmoor Book Club from the comfort of their vehicles or by pulling out a blanket and picnicking on the grounds.

Mother’s Day at Jubilee Zoo

Treat mom to a fun day out at Jubilee Zoo in north Shreveport. Enjoy camels, kangaroos, zebras and more. All admissions include a Safari Hayride, Jubilee Express train ride, feed cone and playtime for the kiddos in the inflatable play center.

Mother’s Day Flower Painting Class with Caitlin Rose

Searching for something to do with your mom this Mother’s Day? Artist Caitlin Rose will be hosting a step-by-step painting session to create a floral work of art. Tickets include all paint supplies, light refreshments and the opportunity to take your piece home. Don’t forget to wear clothing you don’t mind getting paint on or bring an apron. Each participant needs a ticket.
