1 person dies after ATV crashes with pickup truck in town of Omro

TOWN OF OMRO — One person has died after the ATV they were driving crashed with a pickup truck Friday afternoon near the intersection of State 91 and Knott Road in town of Omro.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies and Omro Rushford Fire Department, Utica Fire Department, Oshkosh Fire Department and Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the crash shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found the driver of the ATV was deceased. The sheriff’s office said the deceased driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the family.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

As of 6 p.m. Friday, the roadway was still closed to allow for investigation and cleanup and it was expected to remain closed “for several hours,” the sheriff’s office said. Traffic was being detoured using James Road to County K to County FF.

The sheriff’s office said no further details would be immediately released Friday evening.

Omro has now had four fatal crashes since Oct. 26. The first fatal crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26 on State 21 near Sand Pit Road and claimed the life of 33-year-old Harold R. Kissinger, of Berlin. The second fatal crash happened Nov. 1 at State 21 and East Scott Street and took the life of Matthew L. Drake, 57, of Omro. The third crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. Nov. 3 on Ninth Street Road near State 116. The sheriff's office also reported one other fatal crash in the county during that same time period.

The series of crashes resulted in the sheriff's office issuing a public service announcement reminding drivers to watch their speed, stay focused, watch spacing between other vehicles, check their vehicle's condition, and watch for deer and farmers.
