There’s 1 Clear Next Career Move For Sean Payton
On Tuesday afternoon, Sean Payton reportedly told the New Orleans Saints that he’s retiring as the team’s head coach.
Payton led the organization for over 15 years and helped the team win a Super Bowl. Rumors of his impending retirement have abounded for years, but they were finally accurate this time around.
Earlier this week, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport suggested Payton might walk away after the 2021 season. Now that he has, there is one job everyone thinks he’ll be taking next: a TV gig.
“Payton with a 63 win pct and a Super Bowl over 16 years. Whispers of TV networks courting him persisted for quite some time. Sounds like a nice bridge gig for a year or two,” said ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Have to think Sean Payton will be a hot commodity in the TV booth, if he wants to go that route. Certainly has the cache and charisma to succeed in that venue,” said FanSided’s Matt Lombardo.

“Sean Payton isn’t someone who just wings it. I would imagine he has the FOX tv gig lined up. Of course, that means Aikman probably has the Amazon TNF gig lined up. Which means that Al Michaels is going to Amazon, because Troy isn’t someone who just wings it…” said NFL analyst Dieter Kurtenbach.

Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo has made being a color analyst a lucrative endeavor. Payton could easily step in and make big money as a color commentator or just overall analyst for a network.
Where will he land next?
