There’s 1 Big Name Being Floated For Cowboys Coach
Who will be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys next season?
For now, it’s still Mike McCarthy’s job. Jerry Jones has yet to make a firm decision on his coaching staff for next season, though McCarthy has yet to be fired following his team’s loss in the Wild Card round last weekend.
The Cowboys, the No. 3 seed in the NFC, lost to the No. 6 seed 49ers in the Wild Card round at home last Sunday afternoon.
While the head coaching job remains McCarthy’s for now, another big name has been linked to the potential opening.
Saints head coach Sean Payton used to work in Dallas. He was an assistant for the Cowboys before landing the Saints job. Many have often speculated that Payton will eventually return to Dallas to lead Jerry Jones’ franchise.
There's a lot of talk about Sean Payton leaving New Orleans… and he has strong connections with the Cowboys. That could have a significant impact on what Jerry Jones decides to do with McCarthy.

Sunday morning, it was reported that Payton had yet to commit to the Saints for the 2022 season and beyond.
However, it’s unclear if Payton has interest in coaching anywhere in 2022.

Payton could reportedly take the 2022 season off to recharge and assess his options. Perhaps the Cowboys will give McCarthy one more year before making a run at Payton.
