We all remember the iconic dress Dorothy, played by Judy Garland, wore in The Wizard of Oz. Perhaps this is the dress that set the gingham trend into motion. 
A print advertisement shows a a popular style at the time -- a gingham frock, cinched at the waist, with a full skirt.

Gingham, the classic checked fabric that is, yes, used on tablecloths, is having somewhat of a resurgence in kind of a big way.

As soon as we spotted the kitschy print on the spring 2013 runways, we knew it was going to be a hit. After all, fashion does repeat itself, and gingham has had quite a rich history -- especially with the glamorous movie stars of the past.
