In a true meeting of great women, Queen Elizabeth II made Angelina Jolie an honorary Dame at Buckingham Palace today. Angelina received her damehood as thanks for her campaign to end sexual violence in war zones and her services to UK foreign policy.

Dressed in a pale coat and skirt -- befitting the Queen and Duchess Kate -- the humanitarian, actress and director accepted the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George with a huge smile. Though she won't be able to call herself a Dame (because she is not a citizen of the United Kingdom), Jolie will be able to now add DCMG after her name. Receiving this honor from the Queen is extremely rare for foreigners, and is also rare to be bestowed upon someone so young.

We understand, as well, that Brad and their children were also able to meet the Queen after she met privately with Angelina, something they'll not soon forget.

It was announced in June that Angelina would be receiving the honor, while she was co-chair of the End Sexual Violence in Conflict global summit in London. At the time, Jolie said "To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."
