There is something about summer that makes us want to have the least amount of stuff on our person, and that includes what we're carrying. Most handbags feel too cumbersome, whether they're totes, clutches, duffles or shoulder bags. Hands-free just feels like the way to be.

Backpacks are one option, but those aren't for everyone and can come with their own anxieties (am I the only one who worries someone will steal stuff from behind without me noticing?). And while a few fanny packs are hitting the market lately, I'm not sure the general public is quite ready for that.

So, that brings us to small crossbody bags, which seem to be everywhere lately, and have become a bit of an "It" girl staple. We rarely see ladies like Harley Viera-Newton, Alexa Chung and Hannah Bronfman without one. Who wants to deal with holding a thing when you're so busy being cool? And best of all, they're ideal for all kinds of situations (even for us normals), from hitting the club, to weekend strolls, to music festivals. So, read on for some of our faves and some ideas for how to style them in your day to day life.
